Jacksonville, FL : Two Jacksonville women were killed and two others injured in a crash on Saturday, July 8, 2017

Two Jacksonville women were killed and two others injured Saturday in a crash at a rural intersection east of Alma, Ga., the Georgia State Patrol said.

Merlene Dixon, 79, of Jacksonville was driving a Hyundai Elantra south on Damascus Church Road about 6:20 p.m. when she failed to stop at stop sign and drove into the intersection with Scuffle Town Highway into the path of a pickup truck, the State Patrol report said.

The driver of the GMC pickup, 73-year-old Roy Crosby of Alma, steered left in an attempt to avoid a collision with the Hyundai but was unable to do so, and the truck struck the car in the driver’s side door, the report said.

Dixon and her passenger, Christine Tarrant, 76, also of Jacksonville, were taken to Bacon County Hospital in Alma, but both died of their injuries, the report said. Crosby’s passenger John Cash Dixon, 7, of Alma was flown by helicopter to UF Health Jacksonville.
