GRAND RAPIDS, MI : 1 person dead, 1 injured in fatal crash near the intersection of 32nd Avenue and Chamberlain Street SE on Sunday, 1st November, 2020

Grand Rapids police are investigating a crash on the city’s southeast side that killed a Kentwood man.

Police were alerted to the crash around 12:40 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of 32nd Avenue and Chamberlain Street SE. Investigators say two people were inside the vehicle, which veered off the road and hit a tree.

Officers say the passenger, a 47-year-old Kentwood man, was thrown from the vehicle. Police say he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The passenger was taken to Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police aren’t releasing his name until his family is notified of his death.

The 39-year-old woman who was driving remained inside the car after the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police believe alcohol played a role in this crash.
