Orlando, FL : Alec Gomez, 15, died in a hit-and-run crash in east Orange County on April, Monday 24th 2017
Grrief counselors will be at Timber Creek High School Monday after one of its students was killed in a car accident over the weekend.
Alec Gomez, 15, died in a hit-and-run crash in east Orange County early Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver, who investigators say hit him, was arrested shortly after the 3 a.m. crash, troopers said.
Alec was in the street near Avalon Park Boulevard and Pellicer Drive when a motorcycle struck him, investigators said.
Troopers say Alec was playing with several other young people in the road when the crash happened, witnesses told troopers.
Ryan Fischer, 35, was driving the 2010 Yamaha motorcycle and ran off after the wreck, troopers said.
Officials found him in a nearby backyard and arrested him on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash, troopers said.
Alec was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Noel Kunz, 29, had known Alec for about three years after they met while yo-yoing.
“He was a good kid who always had a smile,” he said.
Kunz helped teach kids how to yo-yo and do tricks as part of the Orlando YoYo Club.
They’d meet every Monday and Alec would always bring laughter as the group would try new tricks.
He even competed last year in the Florida State Yo-Yo Contest.
“They were just playing in the street and skateboarding,” he said. “It’s just so awful. He’s too young to be gone.”
Timber Creek High School posted on its Facebook page about the accident, calling it tragic and announcing the Avalon Park Boulevard school would have counselors available for any student who wants to talk.
“I am asking that we as a community come together in support of this family,” the post reads. “…We are a family at TC and I am confident we will be there to help each other through this tragedy.”
