motorcyclist dies, passenger critical after crash

A motorcyclist died and his passenger suffered critical injuries Saturday night after crashing into a car on Cortez Boulevard, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported.

William Richard Penning, 65, of Homosassa, was driving the motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson, troopers reported. Also on board was Joyce Ann Keller, 64.

About 10:09 p.m., Penning and Keller were riding eastbound on Cortez Boulevard toward the intersection with Cobb Road and Jefferson Street. At the same time, a 74-year-old man, Thomas Schilk of Spring Hill, was driving westbound on Jefferson Street toward the intersection.
