Milwaukee, WI : Two people killed when car hits DPW truck at 76th Street and Sheridan Avenue on Thursday morning, September 22, 2016

A car slammed into a utility truck at 76th Street and Sheridan Avenue on Thursday morning, killing both people inside.

The truck, along with the wood chipper next to it, is with the Milwaukee Department of Public Works. None of their workers were injured.

The speed limit is 35 mph at the intersection, but witnesses told WISN 12 News the car appeared to be going much faster.

"I was sitting in the office doing some paperwork, so then after that there was a big boom, and I look out and the car was into the truck," witness Richard Fisher said.

"Up underneath it?" WISN 12 News reporter Nick Bohr asked.

"Underneath the truck," Fisher said.

Fisher said as soon as he got to the car, he realized there was nothing he could do to help except return to his business and call 911. The injuries were so severe.

"I didn't even know a female was in the car. I didn't know somebody was in the car with him," he said.

Police said the man driving the car was critically injured and died later at the hospital. His 20-year-old female passenger died instantly.

There were two men inside the DPW truck, but police said they weren't hurt.

Police are investigating how fast the car was going, and they may have some help.

Two nearby businesses have surveillance cameras pointing toward the street, and police are reviewing the video to see if it will be useful.

WISN 12 News called the Department of Public Works, but it said it wouldn't comment on the crash while it's still under investigation.
