ORANGE CITY, FL : 72-year-old bicyclist dies in hit-and-run crash in Volusia County on Wednesday, 1st August 2018
Troopers say they believe they've located the suspect vehicle responsible involved in the Wednesday morning hit-and-run crash that killed a 72-year-old bicyclist.Around 5:15 a.m. in Orange City, a female was driving northbound on Enterprise Road while bicyclist Pedro Carrera Perez was attempting to cross the road while in the crosswalk from Volusia Avenue, explained FHP.
As Perez was trying to cross the street, the driver struck the right side of the bicycle, hitting it from the rear, which threw him off of his bike and landed on the road, described FHP.
Perez was taken to Florida Hospital, where he died. Troopers say it is unknown if the man was wearing a helmet.
Florida Highway Patrol officials say the suspect vehicle is a silver 2005 Chevy Tahoe, and that the vehicle has "significant front-end damage" consistent with the reported hit-and-run.
Witnesses say the driver got out to look at Perez, who is an Orange City resident, and then got back into her vehicle and drove off, going north on Enterprise Road.
