Columbus, OH : Man killed, woman injured in I-71 southbound crash on Friday night, May 20, 2016
A 39-year-old man died and a female passenger was injured when a van they were riding in veered out of control on Interstate 71 Friday night.
Raymond Williams, of Columbus, was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. He was driving a Chevrolet Venture minivan southbound on I-71 at 10:58 p.m. Friday when he lost control and crashed into a concrete wall on the left side of the highway, according to police. The van then headed north in the southbound lanes and crashed head-on into a semi near the exit for E. Main St. After impacting the semi, the van also hit another vehicle.
Both Williams, and a passenger in the van, Kellee Hendricks, were ejected from the van. Hendricks was taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital where she is in critical condition. The driver of the second vehicle struck by the van, Carlin Yetts, was taken to Grant Medical center for treatment.
The crash investigation is ongoing. Parts of I-71 southbound were closed overnight.
