Andover,MA : Overdosing N.H. man causes 3-car crash on River Road on October, Monday 2nd 2017

Police arrested a New Hampshire man on drug and child endangerment charges after he caused a three-car accident on River Road last Monday, Oct. 2.

Police responding to the accident at 6:12 p.m. found Eric Dancause, 37, of 49 Manchester St., Apt. 11, Manchester, New Hampshire, in his car with his 1-year-old daughter in the back seat. She was unharmed.

According to the incident report filed by the Andover Police Department, Dancause was overdosing on illegal narcotics at the time of the collisions.

The mother of the child in Dancause’s backseat, Amy McCall, informed police that Dancause recently finished a detox program for heroin use, according to the report.

Police said they found pills and what they believe to be fentanyl when they searched Dancause and his vehicle.

Police said they also found signs of intravenous drug use, specifically a capped needle, a water bottle cap, an empty plastic baggie twist, and a small piece of cotton. Nine white alprazolam pills were also found on Dancause. Alprazolam is the generic form of a sedative also sold under the trade name Xanax.

The crash occurred when Dancause rear-ended another vehicle, according to the police report. The vehicle he hit pulled over, but Dancause rolled forward, rear-ending a second vehicle. The second vehicle Dancause hit was only scratched and the first motor vehicle Dancause rear-ended had less than $1,000 in damages, according to police.

No one was injured in the incident.

Officers at the scene noted that Dancause was “extremely lethargic” and at one point unaware that an accident had occurred.
