Lincoln, NE : Man killed in fiery crash on Highway 2 in Lancaster County on Wednesday afternoon, June 29, 2016
An investigation is underway after a man was killed when his car veered off the roadway into a grass medium, struck a bridge pillar and caught fire Wednesday afternoon.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Bennett Rural Fire, Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Southeast Rural Fire and StarCare responded to the incident at 1:21 p.m., according to a release from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.
The crash was reported on Highway 2, under the Highway 43 bridge.
An investigation revealed that a blue Hyundai, driven by Thomas Neeley, 26, of Lincoln, was traveling west on the highway when it crashed.
Several bystanders pulled him from the car and began giving first aid.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:58 p.m.
Seatbelts weren't used, and alcohol is not suspected, the release said.
