Lewisburg, OH : One person dead, three injured after a vehicle slams into a semi on I-70 in Preble County on Sunday, Nov 1, 2015

One person is dead and three others are injured, including two children, after a vehicle slams into a semi on Interstate 70.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Sunday on the westbound lanes near mile-marker 14. The crash happened after another accident on westbound I-70 when crews were working to reroute traffic.

Troopers said a red car driven by Andrew Adkins, 29, failed to maintain an assured cleared distance and ran into the back of semi which had stopped.

Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Christine Adkins, was flown to Miami Valley Hospital where is in serious condition but is stable.

The couple’s two children suffered only minor injuries and were taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital.

“Driver inattention may be the key to what happened in what we saw today,” said Sgt. Chris Colbert with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “The message is basically when you’re driving, you’re driving. Pay attention to what is going on and expect the unexpected.”

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
