La Crosse, WI : Suspected drunken driver flees cops, crashes into La Crosse home on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016

A suspected drunken driver was arrested Thanksgiving morning after leading La Crosse police on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into a North Side home.

According to police reports, 41-year-old Terrance Traylor of Onalaska was heading north on Rose Street about 2:30 a.m. when an officer tried to pull him over for veering from his lane. Traylor pulled into the parking lot of the Econo Lodge motel and then sped out the back, jumping a curb.

Traylor fled east for six blocks on North Street, running a stop sign at what the officer estimated to be more than 70 mph, before plowing into a home at 1903 Loomis St., according to the reports. The collision damaged the home’s porch and ruptured a natural gas line.

A woman who was home escaped without injury, while Traylor took off on foot.

The officer heard a man several doors away yelling at someone to get off his property and then chased Traylor through an alley as he shouted, “I know you know who I am, and I’m not going back to jail.”

Traylor was arrested nearby after the officer threatened him with a Taser. According to the report he was bleeding from his head and hands and said he knew that he was in “a lot of trouble.”

Traylor refused a breath test and was arrested on suspicion of fourth offense drunken driving, fleeing police, resisting an officer and operating after revocation. He is expected to appear in court to face charges Tuesday. A judge on Monday imposed a $2,500 cash bond.

Homeowner Anne Nicklay said she was on her couch watching a movie when she heard “a godawful bang.”
