Claremont, N.H : Two teens injured after a Car crashes into Claremont home early Monday morning, December 28, 2015
Two teens were injured when a car they were traveling in crashed into a home in Claremont early Monday morning.
The older-model Nissan crashed at 2:30 a.m. into the home on Maple Avenue.
“I opened the door. There was a car right on the front porch,” homeowner Grant Meisenhelder said.
Meisenhelder said his family slept right through the crash.
“It's shocking that we didn't hear something like that,” said Meisenhelder. “The dog barking that's what woke us up and told us something was wrong. That's the only time she barks.”
The crash jolted neighbor Jim Gregoire awake.
“I was sound asleep, and I’m a couple blocks from here. It was 2:30 this morning, and I was sound asleep, and sadly, I heard a crash,” said Gregoire.
Police said two different officers spotted the car going extremely fast through the city and tried to pull over the driver. The police chief said on both occasions, the cruisers lost sight of the car, because it was going so fast.
“There was no active pursuit. By the time the officers got turned around on the vehicle to try to catch up to it, it was already out of sight,” said Chief Alexander Scott of the Claremont Police Department.
The first officer was downtown when the car flew past him. A second patrol car spotted the Nissan in an industrial area near Maple Avenue, but the car crashed before he could close the distance.
“As he continued on his way, he noticed out his periphery that there was a vehicle into a house. He stopped and came back and saw that that was the vehicle that had gone by him,” said Scott.
Officers said the driver and passenger are 18 and 19 years old and have a history with local police. Both were transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries.
The road was closed for a short time as the state police accident-reconstruction team investigated. The road was reopened by 7 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
