Plaquemine, LA : Child killed and others were injured two-vehicle crash at Mendoza Drive On Monday, June 27th, 2016

Louisiana State Police are investigating the scene of a fatal crash in Iberville Parish.

Officials say the crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. off Hwy 75 in Plaquemine near Mendoza Drive.

According to the initial investigation, State Police said two cars, a Jeep and Honda element, were involved in the accident, though they are unable to determine which was the passing car.

Troopers said one car was trying to make a left hand turn into a drive when a second vehicle attempted to pass in a no passing zone. The two cars collided and the second vehicle overturned several times after being struck

by the turning vehicle.

"We're trying to determine the exact number of people that were in that at-fault vehicle, several of them have been transported to area hospitals and we're still working on the status of their injuries," said Tpr. Bryan Lee with

LSP.

Medics say they transported 8 people to local hospitals. Officials confirm a child was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

State Police said it is a possibility that someone could be cited in this crash as the investigation is ongoing.
