Miami,FL : Bicycle rider killed after rolled over by Miami-Dade Transit bus on April, sunday 23th 2017

A man riding his bicycle crashed into a stopped Miami-Dade Transit bus, then was crushed to death under the wheels of that bus Saturday evening, according to Miami-Dade Police.

Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll Jr. said that when paramedics arrived on the scene at Northeast 79th Street and Fifth Avenue they found the man on the ground by the bus. There were no injuries to the 65 passengers on the bus or the driver.

“She’s extremely shaken up by what occurred,” Carroll said.

Though the accident occurred at Northeast 79th Street and Northeast Fifth Avenue, which is in the City of Miami, the involvement of a Miami-Dade Transit bus made this a Miami-Dade police investigation.

Investigators say the bus, moving west on 79th Street, had stopped at a bus bench. The bicyle rider, pedaling north across 79th Street, struck the middle of the bus on the driver’s side. The driver didn’t know the bus had been hit or that the bicycle rider was in a vulnerable position. The bus began to roll. The bicyclist was killed.
