Asheboro,NC : Two charged with DWI in separate wrecks on March, Friday 23rd 2018
A man and a woman were each charged with driving while impaired after being injured in separate accidents in the city.
Steven Charles Amos, 53, of 56 Forest Brook Circle, Asheboro, was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro after an accident at 1:20 p.m. Friday on Forest Brook Circle off North Fayetteville Street.
Officer G.A. Rippey of the Asheboro Police Department reported that Amos was eastbound on a moped when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a vehicle parked in a residential driveway. After the collision, Amos and the moped slid 59 feet and came to rest in the drive at 73 Forest Brook Circle. Amos, who was charged with DWI and failure to reduce speed, was treated and released, according to a hospital spokesman.
In an accident shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, Regina Atkinson Powell, 47, of Andrews, S.C., was traveling northeast on Central Falls Road in a 2017 Toyota when the car ran off the right side of the road and struck a ditch, according to a report by Officer Rippey. The report indicated that Powell was transported to Randolph Health for treatment of disabling injuries, but the hospital had no record of her as a patient. Powell was charged with DWI and with having an open container of alcohol.
