A fatal crash closed down a Volusia County road for much of the day Monday.

The crash involving a semi and another vehicle shut down U.S. 17 at Dawson Brown Road north of
DeLeon Springs, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers.

Troopers said one man was killed in the crash and another suffered minor injuries.

Troopers identified the dead man as Sammy White, 37, of DeLand.

According to troopers, White was northbound on U.S. 17 when his car crossed into the southbound
lane and was struck head-on by a tractor-trailer around 10 a.m.

Troopers said the driver of the tractor-trailer, James Denault, 46, of Polk City, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
