CINCINNATI, OH : Dad of boy hit by car and other man charged in driver death on April,Thursday 13th 2017
The father of a 4-year-old boy who was struck by a car, and another man, were indicted in Ohio on Thursday on murder charges in the slaying of the driver.
The father, Jamall Killings, and Deonte Baber were indicted Thursday in the death of Jamie Urton last month in Cincinnati, said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters.
Deters said Killings’ son was accidentally struck by the car Urton was driving when the child ran into the street, and that surveillance video shows Killings, 24, beating Urton and Baber shooting at Urton.
An attorney for the jailed Killings has said Killings denies involvement in the shooting. Authorities are searching for Baber, 25, also of Cincinnati. A $7,500 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
The boy’s injuries weren’t life-threatening.
Deters said Urton’s view of the child would have been blocked by a large van heading in the opposite direction.
“Absolutely disgusting that a man is dead after accidentally striking a young child who ran out into the street,” the prosecutor said in a statement.
Deters said Baber appeared and started shooting at Urton as Killings was beating the driver.
Deters alleges the white driver’s shooting had a racial element. Both suspects are black.
Deters said Thursday that Urton’s passenger was a black man, and Baber told him to “get out of here, you’re black.”
The prosecutor said an ethnic intimidation charge, which is a misdemeanor, wasn’t sought against Killings and Baber because they could be sentenced to life in prison if they are convicted of the murder charges.
Killings also is charged with felonious assault
Authorities will not release the surveillance video until the trial, Deters said.
