Venice, FL : One person dead, two injured after a fiery crash on Interstate 75 north near River Road in Sarasota County on Friday morning, February 20, 2015
One person is dead and two more injured after a fiery crash that shut down Interstate 75 in Venice for several hours Friday.
Two vehicles were traveling northbound at 10:20 a.m. near mile marker 189 at River Road. The driver of a 2004 Toyota, a 76-year-old woman, failed to stop and rear-ended a Ford Escape driven by Alison Adams Young, 62, of The Villages, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Both vehicles rotated, traveled onto the shoulder and struck pine trees.
The Toyota’s driver, from Fort Myers, is in critical condition at Venice Regional Hospital. A 77-year-old male passenger died in the crash.
Their names have not been released.
Young sustained serious injuries.
Investigators found no evidence of skid marks prior to the collision, FHP reports. An investigation is ongoing.
