Berwick Twp, PA : Adams County woman died in a crash between car and school bus on Route 30 in the area of York and Bair roads on Monday morning, Sep 21, 2015
A Gettysburg woman died after the car she was driving rear-ended a school bus in Berwick Township on Monday morning, according to the York County Coroner's Office.
Kendall Boatrite, 29, died of multiple blunt force trauma shortly after arriving at York Hospital, the office reported.
The crash happened shortly after 8 a.m.
The bus, which was in the eastbound lane in the 6900 block of York Road, had stopped to pick up a student when the crash happened, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Mike Myers said at the scene.
The bus was carrying one student from Conewago Valley School District when the crash happened, Supt. Russell Greenholt said.
Neither the student nor the bus's driver were injured.
Rescue workers spent a little more than an hour removing the roughly 30,000-pound school bus from the car, which was lodged underneath the bus, said Steve Rabine, chief of United Hook and Ladder Co. 33.
The firefighters were prepared for a rescue involving a heavy vehicle, Rabine said, having undergone training for such emergency calls about a year ago.
"It took a lot of resources to get the weight off the car," Rabine said, adding that about 35 rescue personnel from United Hook and Ladder, Dover Township, Hanover and East Berlin were at the scene of the crash.
Boatrite was flown from the crash scene to the hospital.
A stretch of York Road spanning a little more than a mile was closed for several hours.
