Beaumont, TX : Trooper injured in Interstate 10 crash near Vidor on Tuesday, 4th October 2016
A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper was airlifted to a local hospital on Tuesday after the officer's cruiser was struck from behind by a pickup truck on Interstate 10 near Vidor.
The trooper was assisting the driver of a stalled 18-wheeler stopped on the shoulder when the accident occurred, said DPS Lieutenant Chuck Havard.
The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. and shut down the westbound lanes for an hour, Havard said.
Havard said the interstate was closed to allow a medical helicopter to land and take the trooper to Christus St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
The driver of the Ford Ranger that struck the DPS cruiser was also taken to St. Elizabeth's, according to Havard.
Havard said both drivers are expected to recover. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt, Havard said.
