Aromas,CA : Salinas man dies in head-on crash on San Juan Road on August, Monday 28th 2017
A Salinas man died in a head-on car crash on San Juan Road, half a mile west of Murphy Road, Monday after his 1999 Honda Accord crossed over the yellow line.
The victim, whose name will be released by authorities after notification to his family, was driving west on San Juan Road at about 5:54 a.m. at an unknown rate of speed when the car crossed the yellow line into the direct path of a 1998 Ford F-150, the California Highway Patrol said. The two vehicles collided within the eastbound lane. The 22-year-old driver of the Honda Accord did not have his seat belt on and died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Ford F-150, Humberto Gonzalez, 66, of Watsonville, was taken to Natividad Medical Center with complaints of pain and bruising to his ribs. Gonzalez was wearing his seat belt.
Seconds after the crash, a Honda Civic collided into the rear of the Ford. The Civic driver was not injured.
The CHP reminds drivers to wear their seat belts, explaining nearly half of motor vehicle occupants who died in 2013 were unrestrained.
