MADISON, WI : A fatal motorcycle crash on Cottage Grove on May, Sunday 7th 2017
A fatal motorcycle crash on Cottage Grove Rd. is proving to be a wake-up call for some local bikers. The accident happened at an intersection on Sunday afternoon where a 20-year-old Stoughton man collided with a car.
He later died at a nearby hospital.
One local ride instructor says intersections are the number one location for bike crashes to occur.
When sharing the roads with motorcycles, drivers are encouraged to always use their turn signals.
As for bikers, proper protection is most important and can sometimes save a life.
"I saw a crash involving my wife that was not good. She was okay. She had all the gear on. That was what helped make her okay, but she hit her head pretty hard. Had she not been wearing a helmet I don't know," said Dee Dee Sorg, a local Harley-Davidson ride instructor.
In addition to a helmet, Wisconsin DOT encourages bikers to wear visible bright colored clothing.
The DOT also tells bikers to refresh their skills by going through training every other year.
