Vernon, NY : 1 killed, 2 injured in fatal crash in Vernon early Friday morning, December 30, 2016
One person was killed and two injured in a two-car crash early Friday morning on Route 5, according to Oneida County sheriff's deputies.
Eh Doh Moo, 23, of Utica, was a front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
At 1:58 a.m., deputies responded to the crash scene, where it was determined that Utica resident You En, 18, was driving a 2006 Honda Accord east when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow-covered roadway, deputies said.
En's vehicle slid into the opposite lane and collided with a westbound 2014 Honda Civic operated by 52-year-old Richard Reuter, also of Utica, deputies said.
En and his rear-seat passenger, Yin Htway, 19, of Utica, were treated at the scene and transported to St. Elizabeth Campus of Mohawk Valley Health System for evaluation, officials said. Moo was the front-seat passenger in the vehicle.
Reuter was treated at the scene and declined medical treatment.
The Vernon Fire Department responded to the scene, along with ambulances from COCVAC. Several members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Road Patrol assisted, as did the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit and the Sheriff's Office Forensic Identification Unit.
The accident was reconstructed and remains under investigation.
