Park Hills, MO : Desloge mayor, wife hurt in motorcycle wreck on Sunday, October 30, 2016
Desloge Mayor David Kater and his wife, Tina, were injured when a car pulled into the path of the motorcycle they were riding at the intersection of Benham St. and Hillcrest Drive in Bonne Terre around 9:51 a.m. Sunday.
According to Bonne Terre Fire Chief Matt Barton, upon arriving on the scene, Mayor Kater was alert and talking. His wife was alert at the scene, but had received serious injuries to her lower extremities.
"When I got there the car was still sitting in the road running and the front end was torn completely off of it and the bike was on the highway into the ditch," Barton said. "[Mayor Kater] said he topped the hill and the car apparently failed to see him and pulled out into his path.
"I think he tried everything he could to avoid the car, but there wasn't a whole lot of room to maneuver a bike on the top of that hill. Unfortunately it looked like [his wife] took the brunt of the impact."
Tina Kater was airlifted from the accident scene by Air Evac and transported to a St. Louis hospital where she is undergoing treatment for her injuries.
Mayor Kater, who suffered a broken wrist and road burn, was transported to Parkland Health Center, treated and later released.
The couple was reportedly wearing helmets when the accident occurred.
