DELAND, FL : Eustis man killed in head-on collision on State Road 44 near Forest Ridge Road in Pine Lakes on Monday, 9th September 2019

A Eustis man died in a head-on collision while attempting to overtake traffic on State Road 44 near Forest Ridge Road in Pine Lakes.

Larry Vandergrift, 76, was reportedly driving southbound on 44 in a 1985 Chevy Corvette when he made a move to pass the cars in front of him in a no-passing zone according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He struck a 2016 Nissan pickup truck driven by, John Collins, 28, of DeLand, who was going the opposite direction.

Collins was taken to AdventHealth DeLand with minor injuries.
