SYRACUSE, NY : Car crash into electric pole sparks blaze at Syracuse home on Wednesday, 21st November 2018

Firefighters say a car crash into a utility pole ignited a blaze that engulfed a Syracuse home and injured two firefighters and a civilian in the dark of a frigid Thanksgiving morning.

The chain of events began around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, when a car slammed into a pole on the corner of Liberty Street and West Belden Avenue. The Syracuse Fire Department says the impact downed power lines, which sparked the blaze.

It soon enveloped a Liberty Street home.

Department Chief Michael Monds tells Cnycentral.com that five people were in the house, and all got out safely. He says one person was rescued from the roof.

Details on the injuries to the firefighters and civilian haven’t been released.
