Grand Haven,MI : Holland fatal crash passenger dies early on April, Sunday 8th 2018
The 21-year-old passenger in a fatal car crash that took place in Holland on Sunday, April 1, has died from her injuries.
Janelle Ortega died at 2:20 a.m. on Monday, April 9, almost exactly one week after being involved in a fatal crash on River Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, William Montano, 34, of Holland, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after striking a 1996 Honda Civic against a pole just north of West First Street at 11:35 p.m. on April 1. While the crash is still under investigation, police believe both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash that killed both Montano and Ortega. Montano was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ortega was taken to Holland Hospital, then Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where she died.
The Holland Police Department is still seeking information about a second car that may have been involved in the crash. Investigators determined there was a smaller, lighter-colored vehicle that was also traveling at high speeds in the same area at the time of the fatal crash. The second vehicle is not believed to have caused the crash, but the occupants may have information relevant to the investigation.
