Sterling, IL : Woman dies and three people injured in car accident on state Route 40 north of Deer Grove on Saturday, August 6, 2016
A Sterling woman is dead and 3 people were injured after a weekend accident that happened about 3 miles north of Deer Grove.
According to a news release from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident at 2:12 p.m. Saturday on state Route 40, about a half-mile south of Yates Road.
The driver of the vehicle, Hannah L. Zinke, 18, of Rock Falls, was heading north on Route 40 when she lost control of the vehicle, entered the southbound lane, and over-corrected before entering a ditch, causing the car to roll over and come to rest on its roof.
Zinke, along with her three passengers, Barbara L. Wear, 62, of Sterling, Cindy L. Fuller, 59, of Sterling, and a 6-year-old boy, were taken to CGH Medical Center by Tampico and Walnut EMS. The child was treated for minor injuries and released to his parents.
Zinke, Wear and Fuller were transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, where Wear was pronounced dead.
Further information about Zinke and Fuller's condition was unavailable as of press time Sunday night.
The Whiteside County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Illinois State Police, Rock Falls Police, Tampico Fire/EMS and Walnut EMS.
