It happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of I-465 on the northwest side near the 71st St. exit.
Police say that 40-year-old Fambridge Conway and 13-year-old Malcom Conway, of Indianapolis, were in a Ford Escape that was pulling a U-Haul trailer when it was rear-ended by another car.
The woman was trapped under the vehicle. She was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.
The driver of the other car was not injured. The driver of the other car did submit to a blood draw, as required by Indiana law in a fatal crash. However, alcohol is not suspected.
Police are not clear what caused the other driver to rear-end the Conways' vehicle.
