Police say a male driver died at the scene of a rollover accident Friday afternoon after his car struck and downed a utility pole near 201 Tolend Road in Barrington.
A passenger was in the car, but the passenger’s condition is unknown.
Barrington police received the call shortly before 4 p.m. after residents heard the car strike the pole, knocking it down. Utility wires fell in the middle of the road.
The driver’s vehicle was completely upside down, feet away from the downed pole.
Barrington Police Lt. George Joy said police and fire & rescue may remain on scene as late as 9 p.m.
Much of Tolend Road is without power as a result of the accident. It likely won’t be restored until 10 p.m.
Carolie Cash, who lives on Tolend Road just across from the downed wire, said she saw the wires fall and swing when she was in her living room.
“I saw the lines go down like they were in a hurricane,” she said. “I thought they were going to hit the house.”
