Hancock County officials are looking into the cause of a two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a New Cumberland woman and injured two people Sunday morning.

Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies were called at 9:09 a.m. to Veterans Boulevard (state Route 8), about 200 feet south of Locust Hill Road, for a report of a crash between a car and a pickup truck.

According to reports, Tina Davis, 46, of New Cumberland was leaving the parking lot of the Valley View store and turning left to go south on Veterans Boulevard when she was hit by a pickup truck, which was traveling north on Route 8.

According to Chief Deputy Art Watson, Davis pulled out in front of the truck. The driver of the truck, who is 16 years old, unsuccessfully attempted to avoid the collision.

“The driver of the truck tried to avoid the accident, but was unable to and collided with the Pontiac, striking it on the driver’s side,” Watson said.

Davis, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, was taken by ambulance to East Liverpool City Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her passenger, James Lloyd, was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The name of the driver of the pickup truck was not released by the sheriff’s department because he is a juvenile. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian for his injuries.

According to Watson, the department is awaiting results from testing. It is also unclear whether drugs or alcohol may have played a factor in the accident, which is still under investigation.
