Madison,WI : 4 hurt in crash following high-speed chase in Beloit on March, Saturday 17th 2018
A Janesville man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after crashing his car following a high-speed chase, with four people hurt in the crash.
Georgio Beard, 27, was tentatively charged with hit and run causing injury, drunken driving causing injury, felony fleeing and other traffic offenses, town of Beloit police said.
The incident started at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday when an officer saw a car going north on Highway 51 near Cranston Road, doing almost 20 mph over the speed limit.
"The officer attempted a traffic stop at Highway Q, but the suspect vehicle made a U-turn in front of the officer an accelerated south," the police report said.
The chase reached speeds up to 100 mph before the officer aborted the chase while the driver kept going south.
"The suspect vehicle failed to stop at a red light at Henry Avenue in the city of Beloit, with the vehicle hitting two vehicles," the report said.
Three people in Beard's car were hurt and the driver of one of the cars hit was hurt. Police didn't say if the injuries were life threatening.
Following the crash, Beard fled on foot but was found near the Eclipse Event Center and arrested by city of Beloit officers.
