INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, FL : Pedestrian killed in crash with wrong-way driver while loading bicycle onto PSTA bus on Monday, 12th November 2018
Indian Rocks Beach, Florida
Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was killed Monday by an out-of-control vehicle while hitching a bicycle to the front of a county bus.
The fatal crash occurred just before 2p.m. near the intersection of Gulf Blvd. and Fourth Avenue, the Sheriff's office said. Investigators closed Gulf Boulevard to all north and southbound traffic from First Avenue to Fifth Avenue for several hours, sending motorists on alternate routes.
Initial reports from a Sheriff's investigation said neither the bus driver from the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority nor the pedestrian appeared to be at fault. The bus was making a stop when an oncoming SUV apparently lost control and traveled into the wrong lane, slamming into a pedestrian who was attaching a bicycle to the front of the bus.
The Sheriff's office did not release the pedestrian's name Monday evening, pending family notification, but confirmed the person was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
