A Dougherty County elementary school student was killed early Monday morning in a car crash in Terrell County, officials say.
According to J.D. Sumner, public information officer for Dougherty County School System, a second-grade student who attended Sherwood Acres Elementary School was killed early Monday morning in an automobile wreck.
“The family notified the school on Monday,” Sumner said. “We will be sending our crisis team to speak with students and teachers and offer grief counseling to anyone that may need it.”
Jan Parker of the Georgia State Patrol confirmed that the wreck occurred around 7 a.m. Monday close to the intersection of Georgia Highway 520 and Bill Whitaker Road.
“Apparently the child’s grandmother was driving, the child was unbuckled and there were two cars involved in the accident,” Parker said.
