Woodbridge , NJ : New Jersey Turnpike Exit 11 ramp reopens after fiery tanker crash killed driver on Tuesday , May 5 2015

A man who was severely burned when the tanker-truck he was driving crashed on a New Jersey Turnpike ramp has died from his injuries.

The crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes near Interchange 11 in Woodbridge.

The truck was carrying gasoline and the fire sparked by the crash sent thick, black plumes of smoke shooting into the air. It was extinguished about 40 minutes later.

State police say the 58-year-old driver, Carlos Vinciguerra-Gomez, suffered severe burns in the accident and was flown to a hospital. The Elizabeth resident, who was alone in the truck, later died from his injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Wednesday
