Cottage Grove, OR : One woman dead, 12 injured in a crash near Cottage Grove on Friday, July 8, 2016

One woman is dead and a dozen people were injured in a crash Friday near Cottage Grove.

Joe Raade, a division chief with South Lane County Fire and Rescue, said a minivan carrying seven people and a full-size pickup truck carry­ing six people and towing a horse trailer with a horse inside it collided near Lang Road and Row River Road around 4:30 p.m.

Twelve people were taken to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at River­Bend, Raade said.

The minivan’s driver died at the scene. The truck’s driver and passengers had minor injuries, but the mini­van passengers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, Raade said. The horse was injured but is expected to survive.

Oregon State Police and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crash.

Two more people were taken to the hospital following a second crash that took place around 7:20 p.m. on Row River Road near Milepost Nine, Raade said.

“It was another serious accident that required extrication,” Raade said. “Two patients were taken by ground to the hospital after they hit a tree.”

Additional information about the crashes was not available Friday night.
