Oakland, CA : Traffic was clogged along Interstate 880 north after an SUV flipped over on the freeway and caught fire on Monday evening October 27th 2014
Traffic was clogged along Interstate 880 north Monday evening after an SUV flipped over on the freeway and caught fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers were called at 4:42 p.m. to the northbound lanes of the highway near 66th Avenue for a report of a single-rollover crash involving a silver, 1999 Ford Expedition, the CHP said.
The driver of the Expedition suffered major injuries including a broken leg, Officer Sean Wilkefeld said.
Officers said passers-by used an fire extinguisher to try to douse the flames until emergency crews arrived.
At least two northbound lanes were closed to traffic for just over an hour, but were reopened to traffic just after 5:45 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Wilkenfeld said.
