Hesperia, CA : Three children and two adults were killed in Hesperia on Sunday when a delivery van crashed into the car they were riding in as it paused at a stop sign, May 11th 2014

A family of five was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Hesperia while on their way to Disneyland Sunday morning.

In tears and in disbelief, the family of Angelica and Gerardo Jimenez gathered at a memorial Sunday night that now stands where the young couple and their three children were killed near the intersection of Main Street and Balsam Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.

"There were three innocent kids and two innocent people," said relative Lupita Pimentel. "They were really loving and caring."

Family members say Angelica and Gerardo and their children, 2-year-old Ivan, 4-year-old Cynthia and 9-year-old Freddy were heading to Disneyland to celebrate Cynthia turning 5 years old Monday.

The sheriff's department says a van heading eastbound crossed over into westbound lanes for unknown reasons. The van hit their Honda sedan while they were stopped at a stop sign. The force of the impact flipped the van on top of their car.

Gerardo and one of his two sons died at the hospital. Angelica and Cynthia were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were trapped in the Honda.

The body of their second son was later discovered when the van was removed from the Honda. The Honda was so severely crushed that his body was concealed.

Yolanda Garcia says she saw the accident on the way to the market, and thought it looked like her son-in-law's car. She says that when she saw the car on the news, she recognized the rims and knew it was his car.

Bernard Fitzsimmons and his daughter, who live across the street, heard the impact and called 911.

A third witness, Kayla Sanchez, says the driver of the Honda suffered head injuries. She grabbed towels and tried to stop the bleeding, but Gerardo did not survive.

"I have never in my life been in that situation. I've never seen anything like that. That was it. It was pretty scary, but you know, one thing that keeps sticking with me is how in that situation you immediately think what can you do to help it," said Sanchez.

The driver of the van was treated at the scene for minor injuries. It remains unknown what caused the driver to veer into the westbound lanes.

"The investigators believe that the van, after the initial impact with the car at the stop sign, the van came in contact with the curbing of the roadway, which then caused the van to overturn," said San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Doug Hubbard.

The Jimenez family wants answers.

"We just want justice. We just want peace in our hearts because they're family," said Pimentel.
