Apple Valley, CA : Man dies after being struck by two vehicles on Highway 18 in San Bernardino County on Friday night, January 29, 2016
A 63-year-old Apple Valley resident was pronounced dead at the scene on Highway 18 and Rancherias Road after being struck by two cars Friday night, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials.
Deputies received a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Highway 18 around 8 p.m. Friday night.
“Units arrived on scene and found the pedestrian unresponsive,” Deputy Thomas Bechtol said. “Fire department pronounced him deceased at the scene.”
After the initial vehicle hit Felix Rivera, another vehicle on the highway ran over him, authorities said.
The driver of the first vehicle, a Subaru Impreza, was traveling westbound when he struck Rivera as he was walking across Rancherias. Soon after, the second vehicle then ran over him.
There was no crosswalk where Rivera was struck.
Bechtol said Highway 18 was closed in both directions between Rancherias and Bass Hill roads.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
