A McAlester woman died in a single-vehicle accident on Thursday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Mildred Hardy, 92, of McAlester, was pronounced dead at the scene after the truck in which she was a passenger left the roadway and ran into an embankment around 12:16 p.m. Thursday near Checotah, an OHP report states.
The 2008 Chevrolet truck was southbound on State Highway 72 when it departed the road to the left, struck an embankment and came to a stop, according to the report prepared by Trooper Harold Collins.
Norma Wright, 66, of McAlester, was the driver of the vehicle and was transported to St. Francis Hospital by Pafford EMS, the report states.
The report states the condition of the driver was “sleepy” and the cause of the collision was “apparently sleepy.”
Collins also wrote in the report that seat belts were equipped, but not in use.
