Westbound truck rolls and blocks I-10 for hours near Baldwin

A Tuesday morning accident that shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 for five hours was caused when a new tractor trailer truck drove off the road and overturned near Baldwin, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Truck driver Brandon Douglas, 24, of Newbern, Tenn. received only minor injuries when his 2011 International rig rolled. His 31-year-old passenger, James Taylor of Scranton, S.C., also received minor injuries, according to the Highway Patrol. But the truck was severely damaged.

Douglas had just passed U.S. 301 when he drove of the road onto the right shoulder, then over-corrected and drove off the left shoulder, according to the Highway Patrol. As it continued west, it rolled over and blocked both lanes. Police diverted traffic diverted onto US 301 and West Beaver Street until the wreck was cleared about 2 p.m.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
