Topeka,KS : 1 killed, 5 injured in wrong-way collision on March, Wednesday 14th 2018
One person was killed and five others were injured in a wrong-way collision late Wednesday on Interstate 35 in Franklin County, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 10:48 p.m. on southbound I-35 at K-68 highway, just east of Ottawa.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-35 crashed head-on into a southbound 2018 four-door Chevrolet Impala.
A passenger in the Suburban, Tyra L. Cooper, 32, of Independence, Mo., was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Cooper wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Suburban, Curtrail J.H. Hudson, 18, of Kansas City, Kan., was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The patrol said Hudson wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
The Impala’s driver, Charisma A. Shirley, 20, of Kansas City, Mo., was reported injured and was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The patrol said Shirley was wearing a seat belt.
Three passengers in the Impala also were injured and were taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. They were identified as Alexis M. Thompson, 20, of Kansas City, Mo.; Dyimond U. Johnson, 20, of Kansas City, Mo.; and Shakyra K. Nichols, 21, of Kansas City, Kan. They were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
