CERES, VA : Bland County man dies in Smyth County crash on Tuesday, 17th July 2018

A Bland County resident died at the scene Tuesday after a single-vehicle crash in Smyth County, according to the Virginia State Police.

Senior Trooper J.E. Ferland was dispatched after a crash, which occurred 10:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Old Wilderness Road, was reported, according to Corinne N. Geller, public relations director for the Virginia State Police.

A 2004 Kia Forte was traveling east on Old Wilderness Road when it ran off the right side and struck a tree. Its driver, David A. Wyatt Jr., 44, of Ceres, Va., died at the scene, Geller said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remained under investigation Tuesday.
