Mount Clemens, MI : Teen imprisoned for fatal crash sentenced on drug charges on Wednesday, May 31, 2017
A 19-year-old Chesterfield Township man serving five years in prison for a fatal car crash was sentenced Wednesday to one to seven years for two additional drug charges.
Jared Fox received the sentences from Judge Kathryn Viviano of Macomb County Circuit Court after pleading guilty in April to delivery of non-narcotic drugs and maintaining a drug house.
Fox was denied youth status under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act in which his convictions could be erase from his record if he met conditions.
He was sentenced to one to seven years for the delivery charge and one to two years for the drug-house charge. Five additional drug charges will be dismissed as part of a plea deal
The terms will be concurrent with each other and with the five-year sentence in connection with Fox’s no-contest plea to driving under the influence of marijuana and a controlled substance for the December 2015 crash that killed Michael Beers, 34, of Chesterfield Township. Beers, a Macomb County roads employees, was driving to work on Chesterfield Road when Fox’s vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on with Beers’ vehicle.
Beers, also a small-farm operator, was survived by his wife, Nicole, and two young children.
Fox claimed he fell asleep but admitted to ingesting Xanax and using marijuana the night before; a blood test showed signs of use of marijuana and another drug.
The additional drug charges stemmed from allegations Fox was selling drugs from his parents’ home last year while he was free after posting 10 percent of a $40,000 bond. After the new allegations arose, Judge Joseph Toia jailed him and raised his bond.
Police said they found 300 “hits” of LSD, 1,000 Xanax pills, marijuana syrup, other drugs and $11,000 in cash in his room.
