St. Clair County, MI : Fatal tanker truck crash in Interstate 64 in St. Clair County on Thursday October 1 2015


The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in St. Clair County near Shiloh were closed Thursday evening after a tanker truck carrying liquid nitrogen overturned. By 10:30 p.m., at least one lane was open.
The driver of the truck was dead, though it wasn't clear whether the crash or some other medical emergency caused his death. Witnesses said they saw the driver weaving in and out of traffic, hitting several orange construction barrels, before the crash, said Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye.
The truck was not leaking but emergency crews were working with a hazardous materials team to get to the truck and reach the driver, he said.Nobody else was hurt.The crash happened at around 7:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-64 near Illinois 158. The lanes of the highway were closed in both directions but the eastbound lanes were reopened within an hour after the crash, the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency reported.
Traffic is being rerouted at Route 4.
