Oklahoma City, OK : Two people injured in a Head-on wrong-way crash near I-35 and the I-40 interchange early Thursday, October 27, 2016

A wrong-way driver caused a fiery crash early Thursday, sending two people to the hospital.

The crash forced parts of two major Oklahoma City interstates to shut down for hours.

It was a bad scene near I-35 and the I-40 interchange around 2:30 a.m.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers said the driver of a pickup truck was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 when he slammed head-on into a semi.

The cab of the semi caught fire, leaking diesel onto the highway.

Fortunately, the driver of the semi was able to make it out of the truck; however, the driver of the pickup truck had to be extricated.

The two drivers were rushed to a local hospital.

Following the crash, clean up crews worked for hours to move the damaged vehicles off the roadway.

Roads were shut down, and traffic was backed up from dark to sun up.

Adding to the confusion, heavy fog choked visibility and crews brought in flood lights to help.

The cab and trailer of the semi had to be separated and hauled off in pieces.

It took cleanup crews about 5 1/2 hours to get the semi off the roadway and to get the lanes back open for drivers.

Investigators are working to find out how the driver of the pickup truck was going the wrong way on I-35.

Troopers said both drivers were treated and released from the hospital.
