The driver of the car involved in a crash with a tractor-trailer in Litchfield died Tuesday evening, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Grace Marston, 92, was driving on Hallowell Road when her vehicle collided with the truck, which was traveling on Route 126.
Marston was taken by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she later died of her injuries.
A passenger in the car, 82-year-old Anita Wade of West Gardiner, was also killed in the crash, Kennebec County Sheriff Ryan Reardon said.
Wade was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash was reported at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Route 126 and Hallowell Road.
A teenage girl riding in the back seat suffered minor injuries, police said.
The truck driver was not hurt.
The intersection was closed until just after 4 p.m.
“This was a tragic and complex crash scene. I am grateful to all of the agencies that responded and took such great care of those involved," Reardon said in a media statement.
The crash is under investigation, but officials said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
Emergency crews from Litchfield, Monmouth, and Gardiner responded.
