Berkeley County, SC : Two people dead after car overturns, lands in water on Saturday, February 25th 2017

Two people are dead following a crash on Interstate 26.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 12:10 a.m.

Solerun Ruffin of North Charleston was driving a 2003 Ford SUV east on I-26 when she ran off the right side of the road and the car overturned and landed in water.

The vehicle was partially submerged with two people inside.

The front seat passenger died of blunt force trauma, as well as the passenger directly behind them.

The deceased have been identified as 44-year-old Ruth Ruffin of Charleston and her 12-year-old son, Eyfinn Ruffin.

Eyfinn Ruffin was wearing his seat belt, but investigators could not tell if Ruth Ruffin was restrained.

Two juveniles were also seated in the backseat and were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

SCHP and the Berkeley County Coroner’s office are currently investigating the accident.
