Wilmington, NC : Man charged with DWI after crashing into fire hydrant on Sunday, February 8, 2015

Officials with the Wilmington Police Department said a man was arrested after he reportedly hit a fire hydrant with the SUV he was driving, near 2nd street and Market Street. The suspect then reportedly fled the scene.

The collision knocked the fire hydrant off of it's base, according to the WPD.

Officials said they later located the suspect at a gas station on 3rd and Dawson.

Rami Chilton is charged with DWI and hit and run.

Cape Fear Public Utility was called out to repair the hydrant.
