Riverdale man killed when semitrailer switched lanes
All lanes on Interstate 75 northbound were reopened following a fatal motorcycle accident along the highway Thursday afternoon.
The wreck happened around noon near the Hudson Bridge Road exit. All southbound lanes opened shortly before 2:00 p.m.
Sgt. Joey Smith of the Henry County Police Department released the name of the victim Friday. The driver of the motorcycle, 45-year-old Edward Bridges of Riverdale was killed in the accident.
Smith said a semitrailer and a motorcycle were traveling southbound on Interstate 75 when they ran into each other.
"The accident occurred as a result of an improper lane change of the tractor trailer," Smith said.
The impact sent both vehicles through the highway's median, and due to debris from the crash, the semitrailer slid northbound for a half-mile before it was able to stop.
Investigation for the wreck will continue, as Smith said charges against the semitrailer's driver are pending. His identity was withheld.
